Donal Cronin
Donal Cronin is a Director of Carr Communications. He left banking (Bank of Ireland) in the early eighties to join Carr Communications. He headed up the Public Relations Unit of the company, developing special expertise on issue-related communication for healthcare, disability organisations and state bodies. In the mid-80s, he took a leave of absence from Carr Communications to become Media Spokesperson for the troubled Irish shipping line, B&I Line. Following the takeover of B&I Line, Donal moved to Brussels to work with the EU Commission, Social Policy Directorate, where his role was to write and refine documentation to ensure better public understanding of Commission policies.
He returned to Dublin in early 90s to take up a position as Special Adviser to the Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Albert Reynolds. He was chief speechwriter to the Taoiseach; during his time in Government Buildings, he set up a Speechwriting Unit and created a speech-writing process which still stands.
Following the collapse of the Reynolds’ led Government in 1994, he was asked by the incoming Taoiseach to remain as Special Adviser; he declined and returned to Carr Communications to head up and develop the Business & Management Training Unit.
In ten years, he took the company’s Training Services to a new level; the company had long had a pre-eminent reputation in the area of Communications Training. Donal led the company into new areas such as specialist Sales Training programmes for Financial Institutions where the company is now seen as one of the leading suppliers of behavioural training.
