Donal Cronin is one of the most recognised communications and training experts in Ireland. Shareholder and director of Carr Communications, he joined the organisation 24 years ago. During this time he has contributed significantly to its growth and success as one of the leading communications and training companies in Ireland.
Building on the company’s long and pre-eminent reputation in the area of communications training, Donal has led the company into new areas such as specialist internal communications strategies, public awareness strategies, training and development. He designs and delivers a number of Carr Communications’ training programmes, as well as providing strategic counsel to individuals and organisations in the public and private sectors.
Donal left banking (Bank of Ireland) in the early 1980s to join Carr Communications as Head of Public Relations, developing special expertise on issues-based communication for healthcare, disability organisations and state bodies. Following that, he took a leave of absence from Carr Communications to become Media Spokesperson for the troubled Irish shipping line, B&I Line. Donal also worked with the EU Commission, Social Policy Directorate in Brussels, where he wrote and refined documentation to ensure better public understanding of Commission policies.
In the early 1990s, Donal was Special Adviser to An Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, TD, also delivering speech-writing services as part of his role. During his time in Government Buildings, he set up the speechwriting unit and created a speech-writing process which still stands to this day.
Donal has a quiet reputation among senior leaders in public and private sector, and in politics, as the best person to help articulate a strong and clear message, particularly in difficult circumstances. He has worked over the years with the Chief Executives and leadership teams of financial services institutions, the Heads and Chairpersons of State Agencies and Authorities, and the Secretaries General of Government Departments on articulating difficult messages to internal and external audiences.
